The majority of pineal gland tumors present at least by the third decade of life. Thus, other diagnosis should be entertained in pineal tumors occurring in older adults. Metastasis to pineal gland has been reported with low frequency.[7] Pineoblastomas can rarely occur in late adulthood.[8] Pineoblastomas are also composed of poorly differentiated discohesive cells with scanty cytoplasm and pleomorphic nuclei but unlike lymphomas they may exhibit nuclear molding, rosette formation and are negative for immunomarkers of lymphoma. Diagnostic work-up of a patient presenting with pineal gland mass includes serum tumor marker studies of germ cell tumors. Stereotactic biopsy of the pineal gland is recommended if the tumor marker levels are normal. Our patient was treated with RTOG protocol and is doing well.

Urinary tract infection by Trichosporon asahii.
Trichosporon asahii is a basidiomycetous yeast which causes white piedra and onychomycosis in immunocompetent hosts as well as various localized and disseminated invasive infections in immunodeficient hosts. Urinary tract infection caused by Trichosporon asahii is rare. One month after posterior urethral valve surgery a seven-month-old male child presented with fever, severe vomiting and crying...
متن کامل[Trichosporon asahii sepsis associated with urinary catheter in a pediatric burn unit: 2 case reports].
Trichosporon asahii is a ubiquitous fungus that has been isolated as part of human microbiota. There has been an emergence of this pathogen in recent years, causing superficial and deep seated infections. There are scarce reports of urinary tract infections in pediatric intensive care burn units caused by this agent. We describe the cases of 2 pediatric patients with prolonged hospitalization d...
متن کاملA rare case of urinary tract infection due to Trichosporonasahii in a diabetic patient
Trichosporon asahii is a basidiomycete yeast responsible for white piedra and onychomycosis in the immunocompetent host. In the immunocompromised patients, invasive infections are reported; their diagnosis is difficult and they are associated with high mortality rate. Urinary infection due to Trichosporon Asahi is rare but its incidence increasing. We report the case of a 58 year old diabetic p...

Background and Objective: Trichosporon asahii are basidiomycetous yeast-like anamorphic organisms and presently that are widely distributed in nature and found predominantly in tropical and temperate areas. Now it has been considered as an emerging nosoocomial pathogen with increasing morbidity and mortality. Urinary tract infections due to Trichosporon asahii, are frequently associated with in...
متن کاملTrichosporon and trichosporonosis
Trichosporon is a genus of anamorphic fungi in the family Trichosporonaceae. All species of Trichosporon are yeasts with no known teleomorphs. Most are typically isolated from soil, but several species occur as a natural part of the skin microbiota of humans and other animals. Proliferation of Trichosporon yeasts in the hair can lead to an unpleasant but non-serious condition known as white pie...
